Franco Jelovcic blew out seven candles and wished like he’d never wished before. It wasn’t for a Power Rangers’ costume, a Talkboy, a Sony Playstation or a trip to Walt Disney World.
Jelovcic had just watched his heroes dismantle Germany in the FIFA World Cup™ quarter-finals. He prayed they would beat France in two days’ time and reach the final. Davor Suker had Croatia ahead at the Stade de France, and although it wasn’t to be for Miroslav Blazevic’s underdogs, that bronze-seizing side made an indelible impact on Jelovcic. A tall playmaker with exotic skills, he grew up dreaming of emulating Robert Prosinecki.
